Hi, I'm Matt.

I've always been a bit of a collector - looking after toys and games from my childhood. Over time a large selection has been stored in boxes, gradually taking up more space. I can remember most of what I have, when I got it and where it came from. Everything has a story. I've loved and appreciated them for many years and it seems a shame to keep a lot just stored away.

In August 2023 I decided to start photographing items and posting them on Instagram, as a way of archiving them so that I can begin selling part of my retro video game and vintage toy collection.

It is still early days for this Nerd Cave idea, but even after all these years my excitement playing games or going into a toy store hasn't faded. I would love to create something. A place either physical or online to share my enjoyment of this hobby.

I've thought of several ideas about how I can try and make this more than just buying and selling toys. For example; so many toys and games end up in landfill. Several UK charity shops also have a 2 or 4 week policy, where unsold items end up in the bin. I would love to:

Work towards reducing waste by finding new homes for toys and games
Work with local charities to provide toys and games for disadvantaged children
Work with charities that help support the elderly with play and/or memory loss (such as the Alzheimer’s Society)

I'm currently sorting through a lot of old action figures, video games, old Warhammer, Pokémon cards and more. Mostly stuff from the 80s, 90s and 00s. I have also begun sourcing new items as of Feb/March 2024, where I try to clean, restore, and fix items as best I can. Hopefully I can help find a new home for toys and games, reducing waste, and making a positive difference.
